ANENCEPHALIC MUMMIFIED PIGLET

Anencephaly is a cephalic disorder that results from a neural tube defect that occurs when the cephalic (head) end of the neural tube fails to close resulting in the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp. Strictly speaking, the translation of the Greek term to English is "no brain" (that is, totally lacking), but it is accepted that Mammals with this disorder are born without a forebrain, the largest part of the brain consisting mainly of the cerebral hemispheres, including the neocortex, which is responsible for higher-level cognition, i.e. thinking. The remaining brain tissue is often exposed — not covered by bone or skin. Most babies with this genetic disorder do not survive birth.

This one of a kind display meaures 6 & 1/8 inches high on a 4 inch across round base. (Sold)

Mummified Elephant Nose Pig

As sometimes happens in nature here we have a rare example of a pig born with an unnaturally extended nose that soon died after birth. Unfortunately this one was born in India and just left to mummify in a somewhat natural position as is. Lucky for us nothing was lost during the process and it still makes a beautiful display with most hair, eyelashes, etc still intact. The base measures 8 by 10 inches and the pig itself measures about 10 inches long from tail to nose tip and 5 inches tall not counting the base.

One thing of note...The nose tip itself is the actual nose...Hair and all. (Sold)

SIX LEGGED MUMMIFIED PIGLET

This six legged Piglet is actually a case of being a parasitic twin (also known as an asymmetrical or unequal conjoined twin) is the result of the processes that produce vanishing twins and conjoined twins, and may represent a continuum between the two. Parasitic twins occur when a twin embryo begins developing in utero, but the pair does not fully separate, and one embryo maintains dominant development at the expense of the other. Unlike conjoined twins, one ceases development during gestation and is vestigial to a mostly fully formed, otherwise healthy individual twin. The undeveloped twin is defined as parasitic, rather than conjoined, because it is incompletely formed or wholly dependent on the body functions of the complete fetus. The independent twin is called the autosite.

This one of a kind display measures 5 & 1/2 inches high on a 4 inch square base. (Sold)
