Maori Facial Tattoo (Commission)
Things of note: The customer provided this frontal skull to use for this commissioned
project. First thing to be done was stabilise the entire bone structure as it was quite old and brittle so I began with a
chemical stain dip and a thin coat of a dull finish to make it a better surface to work with less chance for breakage. After
everything was ready I went in per the customers request and worked out a design based on the Maori facial tattoos of New
Zealand. After all of the silver work was finally completed I went back in and coated all silver with a slightly tinted clear
epoxy gloss finish similar to whats used for bronze art so the silver will stay as is forever and never tarnish plus the added
benefit of contrast between the dull skull finish & "shiny" silver.
